Types of Abuse


One of the most emotive topics to guarantee an angry response in any situation is that of Child Abuse. All types of Abuse can happen in any situation and because there are no set areas, social backgrounds or ‘typical’ abusers it makes it very difficult to deal with. An understanding of the types of Abuse and the effects that the different types have on children may help concerned people to be more aware and take steps to alleviate it.

Bullying : Bullying is unfortunately very common within football. From the youngest of children to the dressing rooms of high level players Bullying is often seen as the way to get things done. Read On*

Neglect : When primary needs such as food, clothing, shelter and medical care, and emotional needs such as love, are denied is accepted as Neglect. Read On*

Emotional Abuse : For Emotional abuse to take place an adult (or younger) must behave in a way that can seriously impede a child’s emotional development. Read On*

Physical Abuse : Often injuries remain untreated or injuries appear on parts of the body that suggest they happened outside of the physical probability of playing football. Read On*

Sexual Abuse : Sexual abuse occurs when a child or young person is either pressurised, forced or tricked into taking part in any kind of sexual activity with an adult or young person in order to meet the abusers own sexual needs. Read On*
